Portland Mission, Sept 2018

I approached a group of 4 teenagers and started talking to them about Jesus. They laughed in my face and started slating Christians and the Word of God, so I opted to simply tell them my testimony – how God saved me from Cocaine addiction and a really dark lifestyle. They seemed to think my old life-style sounded a lot more appealing to them, one of them even said they had a done a line of cocaine earlier that day.

I was almost ready to go but felt compelled to tell them, “If I lay my hands on you right now you are going to feel the power and glory of God pulsate through you.” This got their attention, and one of them reluctantly let me pray for him. As I started to pray he was laughing and looking round at his friends, but then suddenly his face changed and his eyes began to fill with water! I could feel the Spirit of God pulsating through me. I said to him you can feel the power of God can’t you, he replied saying “YES WHAT IS THAT?!” I looked round at the others and they had all become speechless & with tears in their eyes. The Spirit of God was touching them all in that moment! God took over my mouth and for the next few minutes I passionately shared the gospel with them, and asked if any of them wanted to give their lives to the source of life, JESUS!

The boy who had been laughing at me, cursing at me, and had told me he had done a line of cocaine earlier that day, turned to me with tears in his eyes and said he wanted to give his life to Jesus!!! We prayed right there on the street and he was baptised in the Spirit of God and broke down in tears. It was such a radical moment seeing the power, the love of God completely wreck these teenagers. I couldn’t keep the tears back myself.

Encounter Night

What a Night!

Wednesday’s Encounter Night was one of those times when God turned up in such a powerful way that I think it is no exaggeration to call it an evening of revival.

It began ordinarily enough as we sang songs of worship and then it became clear that God was speaking when Ruth Kirkland prophesied and prayed some of the things I knew Angela Kemm was already planning to say about restoring walls in people’s lives and in the church. Angela then spoke briefly from the book of Nehemiah about not being distracted from the work to which we’re called in building the kingdom of God before getting is to pray in 3’s for whatever we most want God to do – something for others and something for ourselves.

I prayed for God to bring the revival to Bishop’s Stortford that He spoke to me about almost 20 years ago, telling me I’d know it was true when I saw the town flood. This had been made ‘impossible’ by the building of the causeway in the 1960’s and had never happened since. A few months later the Causeway car park was flooded 3 times in quick succession in about a foot of water and I knew God had spoken. Around the same time in the mid-90’s there was a revival in Pensacola, Florida that saw many thousands saved as Steve Hill preached the gospel and a young teenager called Charity sang nightly. Something lodged in my heart as I watched on video and I found myself longing and believing for our own outpouring here in Bishops Stortford. Ezekiel 47 came alive and still lives in my heart with it’s image of the river of God rising up from inside the temple and flowing out to flood the whole region, bringing life, salvation and healing wherever it flows.

Then on Wednesday night after praying for God to flood this town with His reviving presence, I felt Him telling me we should stand on top of the well that lies underneath the baptistry and His spirit would come on us. I have to admit I hesitated incase I was making it up –but then Angela Kemm – who knew nothing of the well under the baptistry – spoke of a spiritual ‘well’ of anointing that just had come on Jake Tucker as he spoke in tongues. She then encouraged us all to touch him to receive the same anointing. I then realized Jake was already standing directly above the literal well!

Extraordinary power unleashed as many then stepped onto the baptistry over the well and we prayed for each other. Many were overwhelmed, with some quite unable to remain standing and others swept off their feet.

As the days go by we will discover just what God has done in us and what the effects will be. It’s an exciting prospect. Our job now is to ask God to keep pouring out His spirit, to be open to Him using us however He wants and to pursue His presence at every opportunity.

New freedom at Wednesday encounter

Wow that was a special Encounter night on Wednesday! We entered a new level of freedom as we met together and let the Spirit lead us in a way that none of us expected.

He sometimes seems to do things like that, perhaps to reach into parts of our hearts that tend to be untouched in the more usual routines of our Christian lives. I’ve already had testimony of that from the evening, bearing out of what Ro sang so powerfully about rising up from the ashes to new life.
It seemed like the way the Spirit broke over us after Angela’s unusual prophetic word of ‘drip, drip drip…….’ was both a reinforcement of how He had been soaking us in His presence through the evening (like sponges) and also a picture of how we can expect God to be "leaking" out of us - drip drip drip – as we live our lives among others.

Let’s expect that, look out for it, and follow it as we look to see what the Spirit is doing and act on it – just like Jesus did.

Exciting times! What will God do this Sunday?

Ps- It was brilliant to talk to two guests afterwards who don’t yet know Jesus, had thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening and want to do the next alpha course.

A trip to Woking

I’m sitting on a train heading for Waterloo having just been at Coign Church, Woking where I spoke to about 40 young people and youth leaders. They had a great, vibrant time of worship with gifts of the Spirit used and almost everyone engaging and joining in. I then spoke on the importance of simply making time to be with Jesus and how our ‘success’ in life and ministry will only ever be as strong as our relationship with Jesus.

So why am I telling you this? Well firstly to remind us that God is on the move! It’s so easy to forget that millions of Christians worldwide have chosen to pick up their crosses daily and follow Him. It’s even easy to forget that right here in the UK we're not alone and that there are passionate churches, youth groups and christians who are desperate for Him and for Him to speak and move in our time!

Secondly I wanted to remind us that God speaks! At the end of my talk I decided to share some prophetic things that I felt God had been speaking to me about. I also asked Amy (my wife), who was at home, to text me some prophetic things that she was feeling and as I shared both I was blown away by the accuracy of them! Young person after young person was overwhelmed that God would pick them out and speak to them, let alone that he would care about their teenage problems.

I don’t profess to be a prophet. Far from it! But I do know Jesus. I do hear His voice. He is on the move and He loves to speak to us!

I wonder what He wants to say to you today?
