Dave and I are settling into our jobs and Krakow. We can walk to and from walk, which Dave does but I have been walking there and taking a tram back at night as I do not want to meet the wild boar. Dave has now twice met wild boar on the way home. They can get quite big. Here is a picture of a small one. They frequently travel in packs with babies and can get be very protective of the baby pigs.
Dave really likes his job but as he gets into it, the lack of funding and bureaucracy are a challenge. My job is very challenging and the politics are on a different scale but the Institute of which I am a director is a small haven. I am also in the UK once a month to act as the Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence for the Babraham which is a refreshing break and gets me thinking about the science and also gives me a chance to see the children or at least some of them.
We started the Alpha course in our house. We held our first Alpha meeting a week ago and had seven guests (one was an English person we met in a pub). We run the meetings in Polish and English – 2 TVs one showing the HTB videos in English and one in Polish where the HTB videos have been dubbed. Last night we had 6 guests. All but one have a faith but their level of understanding of grace, being a child of God and being happy in Christ are at very different stages. We will continue to meet till Easter, then take a break and then continue after Easter.
Janusz contacted the RM plant in Gdansk and we will plan to meet up with them.
Dave is driving back two weeks from now with the car as we need to return it before 90 days is up.
Please pray that the Alpha group is the starting point for a church and that relationships grow, that we are kept safe from illness as well as our kids (especially with coronavirus and us being in Poland and the kids in the UK). Pray also that we make connections with more people like the chap we met in the pub, wisdom for dealing with some complex situations at work and navigating the political landscape in a Godly way.
