Last Sunday I spoke on the topic of ‘God and Sex’ which was the third instalment of our preaching series, ‘Real issues, answers.’
I really enjoyed it and loved helping us to think more about a topic that historically the global church hasn’t dealt well with. I spoke from Matthew 19:1-12 and showed that in these verses Jesus outlines God’s original intention for sex. My heart was to show that we place boundaries around the things we value and that this is the reason that Jesus gave us this teaching.
He values People. He values Sex. And He knew that boundaries bring freedom to both, and my application to the church was simply that we should aim to live inside of these boundaries.
However something I didn't communicate was the radical, unconditional and extravagant grace and love of Jesus that is available to all, whether we have or are living inside of this boundary line.
Psalm 130 says, “If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.” The truth is we are all on a journey and no one is perfect. We all trip up, all fail and all struggle in different areas. But the most important thing to remember is that Jesus will continually and persistently extent His hand of grace towards us. We need to balance the truths that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Romans 8:1) whilst also striving for holiness with His help (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Here at Community Church Bishops Stortford we want you to know that you are welcome and accepted whatever your background or current circumstances. Just like Jesus, we value and love people, and that includes you.
If you struggle in this area or want to talk more about it then please do get in touch, either via the website or through your group leader.
See you next Sunday!
